Borbetomagus in Concert, Copenhagen Nov. 30th, 2010 - A Review

It was not the first time that I attended a concert with this extraordinary trio from New York. For the first time I attended a Borbetomagus concert back in 1984, and since then I met them again and again. These three musicians go on concert tours in Europe and Japan regularly, sometimes they have more performances abroad than in the United States, and on their recent eleven-concert European tour through eight countries I met them one more time at the opening concert in the Danish capital Copenhagen.

For more than three decades Jim Sauter and Don Dietrich on saxophones and Donald Miller on guitar are following their way to create unusual, free improvised sounds on a high-energy level based on the experiences of Free Jazz - music made for people who expect the unexpected, music free from routine and stereotypes that opens your ears and clears your mind. It is an adventure to listen to these musicians who use their instruments in a very unconventional way, and for me the Copenhagen concert was another great experience as well as for my two friends who accompanied me and who attended a concert with this band for the first time.
